
Nepal–Sri Lanka Academic Ties: Professor Manoj Humagain Visits University of Colombo
Professor Manoj Humagain, the Dean of the School of Medical Sciences at Kathmandu University, Nepal, paid an official visit to the University of Colombo on 6 March 2026. During the visit, Professor Humagain held discussions with Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Professor Sampath Punchihewa, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Kaumadi Karunagoda, representing the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, and Dr Iroja Caldera, Director of the International Office.
The discussions focused on potential avenues for joint research collaboration as well as student and staff mobility between the two institutions. Emerging areas of cooperation, such as health tourism and naturopathy, were explored. The meeting also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in Buddhist studies, drawing on the shared religious and cultural heritage of Sri Lanka and Nepal. Following the meeting at College House, Professor Humagain met with Professor Vajira Dissanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. At his request, the Faculty of Medicine arranged a visit to the hospital, providing him with an opportunity to gain an overview of the facilities and clinical environment.
