JICA Chief Representative Visits University of Colombo to Discuss Strategic Collaborations

The Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr Kenji Kuronuma, visited the University of Colombo on 18th July 2025. He was accompanied by Ms Yuri Ide (Senior Representative), Ms Ito Yukiko (Representative), and Mr Thiyagarajah Paramendiren (Senior Project Specialist) from the JICA Sri Lanka Office. The delegation engaged in a productive discussion with Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University, focusing on JICA’s broad impact in Sri Lanka across key sectors such as health, transport, waste management, and renewable energy. Dr Iroja Caldera, Director of the International Office, also took part in the discussions.
One of the key highlights of the conversation was the JICA Chair Program, which has significantly benefited students at the University over the past few years. The upcoming phase of the JICA Chair Program at the University of Colombo is scheduled to begin later this year.
