Faculty of Arts Welcomes 758 New Students with Comprehensive Orientation Programme 2024/25

The Faculty of Arts conducted its Orientation Programme for 758 newly enrolled undergraduate students for the 2024/25 academic year, marking the beginning of their university journey. Held over four days, from June 3rd to June 6th, 2025, at the university premises, the programme aimed to familiarize students with the academic environment, faculty members, administrative procedures, and available student services.
The event commenced with an inaugural ceremony graced by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake; the Dean of the Faculty, Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu; senior academic staff; and administrative officers. Guest speeches emphasized the faculty’s academic vision, the value of interdisciplinary learning, and the wide range of opportunities available to students.
Throughout the programme, sessions included library tours, a Human Library, World Café discussions, departmental introductions, and talks on student welfare and university services.
The orientation provided a comprehensive introduction to university life while fostering a strong sense of belonging and responsibility. It concluded with interesting sessions on responsible relationships, cybercrimes, substance abuse, and ragging, all aimed at raising awareness and encouraging students to make informed, ethical, and respectful choices throughout their time at the university.
