The Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) is pleased to announce the commencement of the Making Teaching Effective (MaTE). This course will be conducted from October 2025 to March 2026. The course embodies best practices in teaching and learning currently practised worldwide and is intended for temporary /contract academic staff of Sri Lankan universities. No prior experience is required to follow the course.
During the course, ten half-day workshops will be conducted at the University of Colombo or via a virtual platform. Participants are required to design and implement new teaching and learning-related activities based on Change Agreements, undertake reflective self-development activities, and complete some reading. Assessment of the course is based on a report and a presentation, as well as an attendance requirement.
In the past, the course has attracted more applicants than the number we would effectively accommodate. Therefore, we strongly urge intending participants to send in early applications using the prescribed Application Form that is attached. The accompanying questionnaire should also be sent along with the Application Form. It is used to identify course participants’ requirements better, and hence, applicants should fill it out on their own, i.e., without anyone’s help.
The completed Application Form and questionnaire should be received by the HRDC no later than 15th September 2025. Selected participants will be emailed by 30th September 2025. Fees, as shown in the Application Form, can be paid at the HRDC via online payment from 30th September 2025, after being informed of their selection.
