Recognizing Sporting Excellence: Colours Awarding Ceremony 2023

The Colours Awarding Ceremony is a significant event that recognizes the outstanding achievements of undergraduate sportsmen and sportswomen who have excelled in their respective fields of sports. The ceremony took place at the Auditorium of the UCFM Tower, Faculty of Medicine, on February 29, 2024, and 430 sportsmen and sportswomen were honored for their splendid performances at Inter-University Championships, National, and International levels in 2023. The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Chief Guest, renowned cricketer Mr Aravinda De Silva, and the Guest of Honor, Vice Chancellor of the University, Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne.

The Mr A L D Moonemalle Challenge Cup for the most outstanding Men’s Team has been awarded to the Weightlifting Men’s Team, while the Professor D A Ranasinghe Challenge Cup for the Most Outstanding Women’s Team has been awarded to the Hockey Women’s Team. The Mr Chintaka Jayawardena Memorial Trophy for the sportsman winning the most number of colors was not awarded this year. Additionally, the Professor Stanley Wijesundara Memorial Trophy for the Sportswoman winning the most number of colors was won by Ms A P D B Perera of the Faculty of Management and Finance. Mr P M Malawana of the Faculty of Management and Finance received the Mr Leslie Handunge Challenge Cup for the most outstanding Sportsman of the year 2023, while Ms L C N Fernando of the Faculty of Science was awarded the Mr S T Walpita Challenge Cup for the most outstanding Sportswoman of the year 2023.

This remarkable achievement reflects the university’s commitment to excellence in sports and its dedication to fostering a culture of athletic achievement among our students.
