Business Idea Competition (BIC) 2023
The Business Idea Competition (BIC) was successfully held on August 18, 2023, at the Faculty of Management and Finance for the sixth consecutive time. The journey of BIC was initiated by the Department of Management and Organization Studies in 2016 with the aim of enhancing the creativity, innovativeness, and entrepreneurial skills of undergraduates.
Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne, the Vice Chancellor, graced the event as the chief guest. Professor MPP Dharmadasa, the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance, participated as the Guest of Honor. For this year’s event, the faculty received 24 ideas, and 10 were selected for the knockout round. The top 10 business ideas were chosen by a panel of judges representing both academics and professionals from the industry. The panel of judges for the knockout round included Dr Sewwandhi Ranasinghe, Ms Chethanee Digoarachchi, Ms Thamodya Herath, Mr Supun Madushanka, Ms Shayara Evanjalee, and Mr Ruchira Walpita.
As the second step, a workshop was organized with the goal of refining the top ten ideas from the students. Dr Sanath Palliyaguru, Mr Rusiri Wijeyaratne, and Mr Dinesh Gunasekara from Trelleborg Lanka PVT LTD participated as resource persons for the workshop. Following the evaluation of the presentations by the students, the final six ideas were chosen to compete in the grand finale. The final selection panel included Dr Thissa Ravinda Perera, Ms Digoarachchi, Mr Udula Vass, Ms Thilini Kumari, and Ms Shanika Seneviratne.
After a competitive and rigorous selection process, the final six ideas were assessed. The BIC grand finale’s top six evaluation panel consisted of Dr Ravinda Perera, Professor B Nishantha, Professor R Senathirajah, Mr Chinthana Wegapitiya, Mr Wickrama Narayana, Mr Nalaka Gunawardana, Mr Chanaka Gunatilake, Mr Dhammika Samarawickrama, and Ms Shayara Evanjalee.
