Strengthening Disaster Resilience Through GeoAI: ADRiMP Meets University of Colombo
The discussion focused on the upcoming dissemination seminar and exhibition of the GeoAI for Disaster Resilience Project. This initiative, launched under the academic leadership of the University, has, over the past three months, trained more than 150 professionals and undergraduates across six locations in Sri Lanka. Participants were equipped with hands-on GeoAI skills using ArcGIS Pro provided through the project.
The meeting explored how the symposium and exhibition could effectively showcase GeoAI applications for disaster resilience, while engaging both academics and practitioners in the field. It also emphasised highlighting the learning achievements of the GeoAI for Disaster Resilience Fellows.
The discussion was attended by Mr Menaka Wijesinghe, Secretary of ADRiMP; Dr Novil Wijesekara, Project Lead of the GeoAI for Disaster Resilience initiative; and Ms Rangitha Balasuriya. Dr Thisara Geethiaka Perera, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Geography, was also present. The initiative is implemented by ADRIMP in collaboration with the University of Colombo, the Ministry of Digital Economy, and the Disaster Management Centre of Sri Lanka, with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka.
