Renovation of Mahagalwewa Junior School Launched Under “Wassanan Diyawara” Programme

The renovation of the dilapidated school building of Mahagalwewa Junior School, Sooriyawewa, commenced on 31 January 2026, under the “Wassanan Diyawara” programme, a community development initiative implemented by the Medical Students’ Buddhist Association (MSBA) of the Faculty of Medicine as part of its social responsibility and outreach activities. The programme aims to improve educational infrastructure in underserved rural areas.
The project was inaugurated under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, with the participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Vidya Jothi Professor Vajira H. W. Dissanayake, the Senior Treasurer of the MSBA, Dr Nadeeka Chandrarathne, Deputy Bursar of the Faculty of Medicine, Mrs A. Anusha, President of the MSBA, Mr Pavara Perera, and the President of the MFSU, Mr Benuljith Karunaratne.
