Congratulations to Ms K A B K Wijeratne, Faculty of Science, for your remarkable achievement in receiving the Open Awards – Canekeratne Prize for General Merit at the General Convocation 2024.
Excelling in academics and sports, while also providing leadership to serve the student community, Ms Bhagya Wijeratne graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Bioinformatics from the Faculty of Science, achieving a GPA of 3.98. She is a recipient of the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship, the Staff Prize, Justin Samarasekara Award for Most Outstanding Science Student, and three gold medals for academic excellence. She also earned Dean’s List honours consecutively for four years.
A passionate dual-sport athlete, Bhagya earned SLUSA Colours twice and University Colours four times in Hockey and Rowing. She captained the hockey team to the Inter-University finals, won the Senior Nationals, secured the SLUG Championship, and won multiple rowing titles at inter-university and club level events. Ms Bhagya has led award-winning community service projects, driven Rotaract initiatives, and represented Women in STEM education. She is a scholar, a champion, and a leader.
