FIM Enhances Ayurveda and Herbal Research Through New Industry Partnerships
In a significant move to advance academic research in clinical product development, the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine (FIM) signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with key industry partners on June 9, 2025. This collaboration aims to foster innovation within the fields of Ayurveda and herbal medicine. The signing ceremony, held at the College House premises, was attended by distinguished guests, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Indika Karunathilaka, Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, and the University Registrar. Also present were the coordinator and members of the Unit of Research and Development of Natural Products (URDNP), along with legal officers, staff members, and representatives from the partnering industries.
This initiative marks a timely and crucial step for Sri Lanka, poised to significantly advance research and clinical trials in the herbal pharmaceutical sector. It underscores the value of Sri Lanka’s rich heritage in traditional medicine and Ayurveda, both nationally and globally.
