University of Colombo Shines in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2025
On 22 January 2025, the University of Colombo was ranked in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject, reaffirming its dedication to academic and research excellence. The THE World University Rankings by Subject 2025 methodology evaluates universities across 11 subject areas using a refined version of the overall World University Rankings methodology. It employs a comprehensive approach with 18 performance indicators categorized under five key pillars, adjusted to reflect the unique research cultures and publication practices of each subject area.
The five pillars used to assess universities are:
- Teaching: Teaching reputation, student-to-staff ratio, doctorate-to-bachelor ratio, doctorate-to-staff ratio, and institutional income.
- Research Environment: Research reputation, income, and productivity.
- Research Quality: Citation impact, research strength, research excellence, and influence.
- Industry: Income from industry partnerships and patents.
- International Outlook: International students, staff, and co-authorship.
University of Colombo’s Rankings by Subject 2025
- Medical and Health (formerly Clinical and Health): 501–600
- Life Sciences: 801–1000
- Physical Sciences: 1001+
- Social Sciences: 1001+
