Professor Tilak Hettiarachchy Award for Academic Excellence - General Convocation 2023

Congratulations to Mr Ishan Arachchi from the Faculty of Law for his outstanding achievement in receiving the Open Awards – Professor Tilak Hettiarachchy Award for Academic Excellence at the General Convocation 2023.

With his results in the final year exam, Mr Arachchi secured entry into an intellectually exclusive club of just 18 members who have managed to obtain First Class Honours degrees in the 77-year history of the Faculty of Law.
Before Mr Arachchi, the last first-class degree was awarded by the Faculty of Law in 2016, more than 7 years ago. Mr Arachchi topped the batch each year as an undergraduate and won all the prizes and medals awarded to the student who obtained the highest average in the year-end exams. He also secured the highest marks for almost all the prize-awarding subjects he studied at the Faculty of Law.
From the first year itself, Mr Arachchi has critically engaged with Sri Lankan and global legal scholarship through his publications which have challenged some of the most widely held propositions in contemporary literature. In spite of his young age, Mr Arachchi has conducted research under world-renowned legal experts, Supreme Court Judges and high-ranking public officials.
